Being immersed in New York’s exclusive style, I have learned a so many things. One being, is that when you plan to come to New York with all your aspirations and dreams that you hope to conquer, you dream of how it will be and who you think you will be inside it. You picture yourself in situations that you really find will bring you places, and by just being here you will get it all..
The thing is, New York isn’t as ‘understanding’ as you think.
New York strips everything that you were ever given. Peels away every little thing, all the way down to your the inner core of who you are, your morals, self worth, the love for Hemingway, your personal style or, bias of Woody Allen. It leaves you completely bare, out in the cold, with nothing but the foundation that you were built around.
I don’t believe New York does this to hurt you. I believe, it does this to see who are the strong, passionate and the ones truly willing to fight. The ones that come with nothing yet, they conquer it all.
New York tests you and slowly it starts to evolve who you are. It starts out with the people you engage yourself with-the innovators, the writers, the photographers, the designers the creators. Then, it travels to the experiences you are absorbed in- the parties, the photo shoots, the street style, the works of art and it will continue to ever little insignificant detail. Soon, that foundation of self worth isn’t so bare anymore. The lonely foundation is accompanied by walls, a roof and a door. New York, takes you under its wing and truly pulls out all of the greatness inside of you.
Soon that person you dreamed about will be a distant memory because, New York has helped you create someone even more purposeful and extravagant than you ever thought imaginable.
You could say that New York has a funny way of showing it’s love.
Yet, that love is craved by so many, including myself.
